12 women elected to Parliament via gender corrective mechanism
The conclusion of the casual elections exercise has also triggered the gender corrective mechanism.
The Electoral Commission has announced the names of the six Labour and six Nationalist candidates who were elected via this process.
As anticipated by The Malta Independent last Friday, the six Labour candidates who made it to Parliament via this process are
Cressida Galea, Fleur Abela , Francesca Zarb, Yana Borg Debono Grech, Deborah Schembri and Romilda Zarb.
As a result, the Labour Party’s Parliamentary Group will now be composed of 42 MPs, of whom almost 36% are women.
For the PN, Bernice Bonello, Julie Zahra, Norma Camilleri, Annabelle [Muscat] Cilia, Marilena Gauci and Miriana Calleja Testaferrata de Noto were elected.
