17-year-old arrested over drug trafficking

A 17-year-old youth was arrested on Saturday afternoon after being caught selling drugs, police said in a statement on Sunday.

The police said that the teenager, who is from Msida, was arrested in Għaxaq after being observed meeting with different people, potentially to sell drugs.

After some time under surveillance, the youth was arrested and a search resulted in 53 packets of cocaine, 11 packets of heroin, and three packets of synthetic cannabis.

Several mobile phones, cash, and other items related to drug trafficking were also elevated, police said.

The teenager is being held at the police’s lock-up in Floriana and was set to be charged on Sunday morning before Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech.

Police said that investigations are ongoing.
