Memorial held for Polish teen who died after being swept away by wave at Ċirkewwa

The Polish community in Malta on Sunday gathered to pay tribute to the memory of Oliwia Wojnowska, the 13-year-old girl who tragically lost her life after being swept away by a wave at Ċirkewwa.

She was with her 17-year-old brother and their father when she was dragged into the sea on Monday. Although her father attempted to save her, he was unsuccessful. The girl’s body was found two days later.

The memorial service, followed by Mass, was held at the Chapel of St John Bosco in Tas-Sliema and was led by Reverend Robert Chrzascz, Delegate of the Polish Bishops’ Conference for the Ministry to the Polish Community.

Officials from the Malta Police Force, the Civil Protection Department, Transport Malta, and Mater Dei Hospital were also present to pay their respects to Wojnowska.

After the Mass, the Polish community proceeded to Ċirkewwa, where wreaths of flowers and candles were placed in her memory. Representatives of the Polish Embassy and Maltese law enforcement agencies were also present at the commemoration.
