€1.1 million fund backs 52 community projects

Around €1.1 million in public funds have been allocated to 52 small-scale community projects led by voluntary organisations and local councils, following a competitive call under the Community Support Scheme, the government said.

A total of 40 voluntary organisations and 12 local or regional councils were selected for funding. The scheme targets entities that do not qualify for EU LEADER funds, effectively filling a financing gap for grassroots initiatives.

Projects include environmental improvements, restoration of public and historic spaces, and local interventions aimed at improving quality of life. The funding suggests a continued policy focus on community-level initiatives, though the relatively small scale of projects means their long-term impact will depend on execution and follow-up.

A second call for proposals is expected in the coming months, with more than 900 voluntary organisations and all local and regional councils eligible to apply, provided they meet regulatory requirements.
