‘What we started together in 2013 lives on’, Joseph Muscat says as he taunts fifth win

What we started together in 2013 lives on, former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said on Facebook hours after a fourth electoral win for Labour was declared.

Muscat served as Prime Minister between 2013 and 2020 when he was forced to resign following developments in the Daphne Caruana Galizia muder

Muscat was named the 2019 “Person of the Year in Organized Crime and Corruption” by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP). In May 2024, he also became the first former Maltese Prime Minister to face criminal charges regarding a controversial public hospitals contract.

“We played our part whenever and wherever we were called upon, and we fulfilled our duty with commitment and dedication, as we have always done,” Muscat said, showing five fingers in a photo uploaded to his Facebook page, a clear taunt that Muscat is expecting a fifth win.

His wife and two children show four fingers which is the symbol of Labour’s win today.

“We believe that, while together we have written an important chapter in our country’s history, our journey is far from over. If we continue to listen to people, understand their needs and aspirations, and work in their best interests, there is still more that we can achieve together.”
