PN Leader nominates Bernard Grech for the role of Deputy Speaker of Parliament

Nationalist Party leader Alex Borg will be nominating his predecessor Bernard Grech for the role of Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, the PN said Friday.

If accepted by the government, Bernard Grech’s election to the role of Deputy Speaker will take place tomorrow in the House of Representatives during the first Parliamentary sitting of this legislature. It will follow the election of Carmelo Abela as Speaker, before Members of Parliament take the oath of office.

As promised by PN Leader Alex Borg during the first meeting of the PN Parliamentary Group following the election, which was held earlier this week, two Assistant Whips of the Parliamentary Group are also being appointed to assist Whip Ivan Castillo. The PN Leader has appointed MPs Toni Bezzina and Annabelle Cilia to these roles.

While congratulating Bernard Grech, as well as Toni Bezzina and Annabelle Cilia, on these appointments, the PN said it looks forward to continuing, as from tomorrow, after the State Opening of the 15th Parliament, to fulfil its role as a responsible, constructive and determined Opposition that makes the voice of the Maltese and Gozitan people heard in the country’s highest institution.
