Abela highlights plans to create more career opportunities for young Gozitans

Prime Minister Robert Abela has reiterated the government’s commitment to creating more quality opportunities for young people in Gozo, allowing them to pursue their careers and build their futures on the island.

Abela made the remarks during a visit to Gozo, accompanied by Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, where he met representatives of the Gozo University Group (GUG) and visited the family-run Ramla Valley Olive Grove in the Ramla l-Ħamra valley.

During his meeting with the GUG executive, Abela heard directly from young people about their experiences as students, the realities they face and their aspirations for the future.

The Prime Minister said the government remained committed to initiatives that not only support young people but also give them a voice, allowing them to participate actively in their communities and in decisions affecting them.

Discussions also focused on measures aimed at improving connectivity between Malta and Gozo.

Abela said the government’s vision for Gozo remained centred on creating more quality opportunities, particularly for young people, so they could advance their careers, fulfil their aspirations and choose to build their futures in Gozo.

During his visit, Abela also toured Ramla Valley Olive Grove, a seven-generation family-run agricultural business situated in the fertile Ramla l-Ħamra valley.

The Prime Minister was shown the olive groves and the process involved in producing olive oil, from harvesting the olives through to the final product. The business uses traditional methods and organic practices and is particularly known for its Extra Virgin Olive Oil, which has received various international awards and accolades.

The family business also produces flavoured oils, honey, jams, olives, capers, tomato paste, sun-dried tomatoes and seasonal fruit using produce grown by the family itself.

Abela commended businesses such as Ramla Valley Olive Grove for combining tradition and innovation to produce Gozitan products capable of competing and gaining recognition internationally.

He said agriculture, local produce and family businesses remained an important part of Gozo’s economic and social identity, adding that the government would continue supporting initiatives that create added value, improve quality and open new opportunities for Gozitan producers.
