Archbishop Scicluna calls for peace and renewal in Easter Sunday homily

Archbishop Charles Scicluna delivered a homily centred on faith in the Resurrection and a renewed call for peace in a troubled world, during the Easter Sunday Mass held at St. John’s Co-Cathedral.

Addressing the congregation, Archbishop Scicluna spoke of the core Christian belief that Christ “truly rose from the dead,” describing it as the foundation of faith and daily life.

Drawing from the ancient Easter sequence, he recalled the proclamation: “We know that Christ rose truly from the dead… O victorious King, have mercy on us,” highlighting its enduring spiritual significance.

He said that this belief is not only central to Christian doctrine but also shapes moral choices and humanity’s ultimate destiny.

“We celebrate this faith, the foundation of our lives, our decisions, and the destiny of each one of us,” Scicluna said.

The Archbishop contrasted the message of Easter with the current global climate, marked by “pride, arrogance, violence and war.”

He spoke of the relevance of Christ’s Easter greeting, “Peace be with you,” urging both personal and communal reflection.

He called for peace “in our hearts” and “among ourselves,” describing it as a prayer especially meaningful on Easter morning.

Reaffirming Christ’s victory over “evil, sin and death,” Archbishop Scicluna encouraged the faithful to turn to the “victorious King” in humility, seeking forgiveness, mercy and reconciliation.

Scicluna concluded his homily by extending Easter greetings to all, wishing the community “a blessed Easter” and inviting renewed faith in the risen Lord.
