Banda San Filep unveils restored façade with support from NGO Co-Financing Fund

The St Philip Band Club AD 1851, better known as Banda San Filep in Ħaż-Żebbuġ, has inaugurated a newly restored façade after benefiting from support through the NGO Co-Financing Fund.

The fund is designed to help voluntary organisations co-finance projects that are themselves backed by European funds, and in this case it supported a restoration initiative involving the historic club building at the heart of Ħaż-Żebbuġ.

The organisation recently implemented the project through EU LEADER funding, using the resources to restore the façade of the historic premises in order to safeguard its architectural integrity and visual appeal.

Inauguration of the project was attended by Inclusion and Volunteering Minister Julia Farrugia and Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector chief executive Mauro Pace Parascandalo.

During the visit, it was noted that the NGO Co-Financing Fund is offering an important opportunity for organisations to continue investing in quality projects while strengthening their role as a central pillar of society. It was also stressed that such investments not only contribute to the preservation of historical and cultural heritage, but also help create more attractive and functional spaces for the community.

In her address, Farrugia said the investment is a clear example of how government is continuing to provide concrete support to the voluntary sector, which she described as playing an essential role in the country’s social and cultural life.

She said Banda San Filep is not only part of Malta’s cultural heritage, but also a community hub that brings people together. Through the NGO Co-Financing Fund, she said, the government is continuing to strengthen the capacity of voluntary organisations to deliver quality projects that leave a positive and sustainable impact in localities.

Farrugia said the Żebbuġ project is clear evidence of how these funds were crucial in protecting and strengthening Malta’s historical and cultural identity, while enabling the project to become a reality.

Parascandalo said it is encouraging to see organisations making use of both European and local funds in order to improve the quality of what they offer to the communities in which they operate.

Apart from this scheme, Banda San Filep has also benefited from the Voluntary Organisations Project Scheme, the Small Initiatives Support Scheme, and the Communities More Inclusive scheme.
