Borg hopes 2026 will be year that trust is rebuilt between institutions and citizens
PN Leader Alex Borg expressed his hope that this will be a year in which, through everyone’s contribution, trust is rebuilt between institutions and citizens, between those in leadership and social partners, between politics, politicians and the public, “so that together we can build the Malta and Gozo that we all want.”
Borg addressed journalists and social partners during a New Year’s reception at the PN HQ.
“I believe that if we work together for the good of our country, we can shape the kind of politics that delivers the Malta and Gozo we want,” Borg said.
Alex Borg stressed the importance of journalists’ work in ensuring that the truth is known, and expressed his concern about the attacks and intimidation that journalists in our country continue to face.
He recalled the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia – an attack on a journalist and on the public’s right to know the truth – and said it was regrettable that many of the recommendations stemming from the inquiry into her murder have remained unimplemented.
Borg also spoke about other matters of concern, including traffic, and said he would continue to insist that, on issues of national importance such as these, there must be agreement between the two main political parties. Only in this way, Alex Borg said, “can we arrive at lasting solutions.”
The Leader of the PN said that change towards higher quality is needed, but that this change must be based on serious dialogue with social partners, professionals, civil society and NGOs, so that they are fully involved in shaping the country’s economic policy.
