Boy injured in alleged attempted murder by father out of intensive care

A 12-year-old boy who was critically injured in an alleged attempted murder by his father is now in improved condition and out of intensive care, Times of Malta has reported.

The boy was previously in critical condition. He is now no longer in the Intensive Therapy Unit. He remains hospitalised but is improving steadily, the newspaper reports.

The suspect, the boy’s father, is accused of attempting to murder both his children.  He allegedly attacked not only his son but also his 10-year-old daughter, who escaped and sought help. The father pleaded not guilty in court.

The alleged assault took place in the White Rocks area. The boy was found lying in a pool of blood with multiple head injuries. The daughter reported that her father tried to strangle her, and that she believed her brother had been killed.

The father was on the run for three days, but was eventually identified and arrested by a police officer. He allegedly had injuries consistent with an attempted suicide.

The accused cannot be named due to a court order.
