MALTA: Qormi – St George’s Feast 2010

The Feast of St George in Qormi is celebrated annually on the last Sunday of June. Qormi is one of the largest towns in Malta while the parish of St George is one of the eldest parishes in Malta. The present Church was built in 1684 and the statue of St George was carved in wood by Pietro Felici in 1739. The parish has two Band Clubs: St George Band Club and Anici Band Club. There are other clubs run by volunteers like the Fireworks team and those who are involved in decorating the streets around the parish. These people make the feast possible. Hymns: 1.) "Fjur tal-Martri" — traditional hymn, music by Mro Guzeppi Camilleri and lyrics by Dun Karm Psaila 2) "Innu March" – "Gorgi Taghna", music by Archibald Mizzi and lyrics by Fr Paul Genovese. Once again the Festival earned a great success. It was held at its village around the Parish Church of St Sebastian on the 10th to 11th September 2010.
