Final day Carnival activities cancelled due to bad weather

All Carnival activities for tonight have been cancelled due to bad weather.

This decision was taken following consultations between civil authorities and Festivals Malta. Earlier this morning, the Civil Protection Department issued an Orange Weather Warning in light of strong winds; winds are still expected to reach gale force in some areas.

Hence, the Grand Defilé in St Anne Street, Floriana, and the programme scheduled for St George’s Square in Valletta have been cancelled.

Today was supposed to be the final day for this year’s carnival activities before Ash Wednesday tomorrow.

Instead of being paraded to close this winter carnival season, all carnival floats will remain parked in the St James Ditch until around 9:30pm, when winds are expected to subside. Afterwards, they will be transported back to the warehouses.
