Four public art projects announced for Gozo

Four public art projects by Gozitan artists will be installed in public spaces across Gozo following a public call for proposals that has now reached the installation phase.

The announcement was made during a launch event attended by Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri. He described the selected works as creations by prominent Gozitan artists that will embellish public spaces while contributing to the island’s cultural movement, particularly in light of Victoria 2031 – the European Capital of Culture title, a platform in which Gozo is also expected to play a role.

Camilleri said the installations will be rolled out progressively in the coming months, adding that each monument carries its own interpretation. He encouraged the public to follow developments as the works are installed in various public spaces around the island.

The selected projects are:

Encounter by Christopher Saliba
Wieħed by Austin Camilleri
Fish Can Fly by Vince Caruana
Ancestors by Mario Agius

The initiative represents an investment not only in art but also in the character, identity and quality of public spaces across Gozo. The scheme was launched with the aim of increasing public art on the island and creating a tangible opportunity for Gozitan artists to see their creativity materialise in public installations.

Installation of the four artworks is scheduled to take place over the coming months.
