Government assures support for aviation cosmetics workers after eviction order

Workers formerly employed by Aviation Cosmetics have received outstanding wages following government intervention, Economy Minister Silvio Schembri announced.

The company, which employed around 60 people, had been ordered by the courts to vacate its premises after facing longstanding financial difficulties and accumulating substantial debts with private entities, he said. Despite the firm operating within the private sector, the government stepped in to support affected employees, many of whom had not been paid since January, the minister said.

Schembri said that over 50 workers were left without their February wages, placing significant strain on individuals with families, loans and other financial commitments. He described the situation as unacceptable and confirmed that, after discussions involving Malta Enterprise and INDIS, all due wages were paid.

The minister emphasised that efforts are now focused on securing future employment for the workers. He said the government is actively working to attract another company in the aviation sector to Malta to ensure continuity of jobs and make use of the specialised skills of the workforce.

Schembri reiterated that the government would not abandon the employees, stressing that aviation remains a key sector in Malta’s long-term economic vision. He expressed confidence that a solution would be found in the coming days, urging workers to remain patient while discussions continue.
