Jo Etienne Abela and Deo Debattista given Cabinet permission to continue limited medical practice
Cabinet has given special permission to Jo Etienne Abela and Deo Debattista to continue their medical practice in a limited manner.
Both Cabinet members will be offering limited service within the public health service free of charge.
Abela, who is Tourism Minister, was authorised to carry out a limited number of operations within the national health service as Cabinet determined that his expertise was still necessary within the service.
Authorisation is for Abela to offer a limited number of hours which are determined by the medical needs of the patients.
Debattista, who is Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing, has been given permission to continue to follow patients at St Vincent de Paule who are suffering from serious health conditions.
The service will also be free of charge and for a limited number of hours.
Cabinet said that it had reached this decision based on Article 7.2 of the Minister’s Ethics Code. Both were not a part of the Cabinet meeting while the matter was being discussed.
