Labour Party anchors campaign on credibility and economic strength
The Labour Party is framing its electoral campaign around the twin pillars of proven reliability and a robust economy, with Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi statind Wednesday that the proposals recently unveiled by Prime Minister Robert Abela are designed to support citizens through every stage of life.
Key measures highlighted include increases in student stipends, enhanced assistance for first-time homebuyers, additional benefits for pensioners, and free travel services for Gozitans.
The Minister also revisited several high-profile pledges made in recent days, such as a total tax exemption on the first €30,000 earned by young professionals during their first three years of full-time employment. Other social measures include extensions to maternity and paternity leave and new homeownership schemes.
Zrinzo Azzopardi argued that the ability to deliver such a program requires a foundation of concrete results, noting that since 2013, the Labour Party has consistently kept its word and implemented the vast majority of its electoral mandates. He pointed to an implementation rate of over 82% during the last legislature, which covered tax cuts, pension hikes, and environmental investments, as well as unexpected achievements like the agreement to return Manoel Island to the public as a national park.
MP Amanda Spiteri Grech emphasized that these proposals are only feasible due to sound financial management. She remarked that since 2013, the Labour government has transformed a stagnant economy into a resilient one capable of shielding Maltese and Gozitan families from international challenges.
