Libyan man arrested in Ħamrun over alleged drug trafficking

A 36-year-old Libyan man was arrested on Thursday afternoon in connection with alleged drug trafficking in Ħamrun after police officers on patrol reportedly saw him handing over a packet containing a suspected drug to another person.

Police said that at around 3.30pm, officers on routine patrol in Trejqet San Pietru, Ħamrun, noticed the alleged exchange and immediately stopped the man.

A search carried out on him led to the discovery of 28 sachets containing a substance suspected to be a synthetic drug, as well as a knuckle duster and an amount of cash.

Further searches were later conducted at the man’s residence in Triq il-Farfett, Marsa, where police said they found more suspected synthetic drugs, blocks of a substance believed to be cannabis resin, and other items allegedly linked to drug trafficking.

The man is expected to be arraigned in court on Friday at around noon before Magistrate Dr Claire Stafrace Zammit.

Police investigations are ongoing.
