Man deported after he was found working in Malta illegally

A 26-year-old man has been forcibly removed from Malta and returned to his country of origin in East Africa following immigration enforcement action by the Immigration Police, the police said.

In a statement, the police said that the man was arrested earlier this year in Paceville after allegedly disturbing public order. During the incident, investigations carried out by the Principal Immigration Officer established that he had been working illegally in Malta, as his residence permit had expired.

As a result, a Return and Removal Order was issued against him. A ban was also imposed preventing him from re-entering the Schengen Area.

The individual was subsequently held at a detention centre under the supervision of the Detention Services Agency while the return process was completed.

In recent days, the Immigration Police carried out the deportation, with the man being escorted out of Malta and returned to his home country.
