Minister Attard inaugurates advanced training simulator for the construction sector
Minister for Justice and Reform of the Construction Sector Jonathan Attard inaugurated an advanced simulator for the training of excavator operators and heavy machinery operators.
The equipment will form part of the educational hub of the Building and Construction Authority as part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to continue raising standards, safety and professionalism within the construction sector.
The Simpro3 Excavation Simulator from Sanlab is a modern technological investment that will provide realistic training to potential licensed operators of excavators and heavy machinery through the simulation of real-life construction site scenarios.
During the inauguration, Minister Jonathan Attard stated that this investment forms part of a wider vision aimed at continuing the modernisation of Malta’s construction sector through training, innovation and structural reforms.
“This is not only an investment in technology, but a direct investment in our people. We want a construction sector built on competence, quality and safety, and this is why we are continuing to invest in the training and education of our workers,” stated Minister Attard.
The Minister also referred to the reforms implemented by the Government in recent years within the sector, including the introduction of the licensing regime for contractors and builders, aimed at strengthening standards and accountability within the construction industry.
“As a Government, we will continue sending a clear and unequivocal message: within the construction sector there is no room for shortcuts or compromises when it comes to health and safety. The future of this sector must be built on quality, discipline, training, responsibility and full respect towards people’s lives and our communities,” Minister Jonathan Attard concluded.
The Simpro3 Excavation Simulator by Sanlab includes a robotic platform with original controls and components identical to those used on real machinery. The system allows training across various scenarios, including daytime and nighttime operations as well as different weather conditions. Trainees can receive instruction in areas such as trenching, digging, hill driving, soil and rock loading, pneumatic hammer positioning and several other functions related to construction site operations.
Meanwhile, BCA Chief Executive Officer Perit Roderick Bonnici explained the ongoing work being carried out to ensure operators remain updated with the latest developments within the sector. “Discussions to bring this simulator to Malta have been ongoing for several months, during which various companies within the industry were evaluated according to different criteria related to excavation operations. This ensured that our operators are provided with the best technological equipment so that we continue offering training that truly raises standards within the sector,” stated Perit Bonnici.
Sanlab owner Evren Emre spoke about the continuous discussions that led to the collaboration between the two countries. He stated that through this equipment Malta will now be offering the latest technology, providing not only realistic training but also programmes capable of addressing various situations within the local construction sector.
Also attending the inauguration were representatives from Sanlab, including owner Evren Emre and Director Ekin Felek, BCA Chairman Perit Simon Saliba, as well as representatives from the construction sector and other stakeholders.
