New health services centre inaugurated in Rabat, Gozo

A new health services centre has been inaugurated in Rabat, Gozo, bringing podiatry clinics and regulatory offices under one roof to improve access and efficiency for patients, a government statement said.

Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela inaugurated a new Health Services Centre in the heart of Rabat, Gozo, a statement said.

It was explained that the centre, which previously served as the main primary healthcare clinic, has now been refurbished to house two podiatry clinics and a regulatory health office.

Abela said the project delivers another government commitment, with the introduction in of offices for the Authority for the Standards of Older Persons (OPSA) and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Health in Gozo.

He said that demand for podiatry services in Gozo continues to grow, with the local team treating more than 14,000 patients annually.

The relocation of these clinics is expected to improve service delivery while freeing up space for radiography services at the Rabat Primary Health Care Clinic.

“This centre is the result of government’s work towards Vision 2050. We will continue bringing healthcare services closer to Gozitans, offering high-quality care and introducing new services so that patients can receive more treatment in Gozo itself,” Abela said.

Primary Health Care CEO Karl Farrugia said the centre will help accommodate around 5,000 of the 14,000 podiatry patients seen annually in Gozo, improving efficiency and allowing more patients to be treated within the community through a faster service.
