New Identità office opened in Victoria, Gozo
Identità has opened a new office in the heart of Victoria, Gozo to improve the quality and efficiency of its services offered to the Gozitan people.
The inauguration for this office was held by the Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri, together with the Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment, Byron Camilleri.
The agency has begun operating from this new building, which is accessible and equipped with modern facilities in response to the growing demand of Identità’s services. In recent years, Identità’s offices in Gozo have processed thousands of applications each year, ranging from identity cards, to passport, as well as residence documents issued to the Gozitan public and foreign residents.
This office will be offering essential services, like the issuance of identity cards, passports, public registry services, and permits and residence documents – all under the same roof. These services, prior to this inauguration, were formerly scattered across different offices.
During this inauguration, the government’s and the agency’s commitment to ensure that public services continue to develop and adapt to contemporary realities was emphasised. It was noted that services should be bolstered through continuous investment in digital transformation, efficiency, and quality of service, while processes simplify in a manner that doesn’t undermine security controls.
Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri stated that this steps forms part of the government’s broader strategy to make public services more modern and accessible.
“Our aim as a Government is to always make services closer to the people, to serve citizens better and without a doubt this office will translate into a better service for the people,” he said.
He added that, in parallel with this, national authorities are also working to improve online services. The Security Minister also thanked all Identità officials for their work, especially as Identità’s role and services have continued to expand as “every person in Malta needs it.”
The Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri, said that all works related to the M&Es and finishes of this building cost his Ministry some €350,000. He said that “these works included extensive interventions where everything was redone, including the tiles, the soffits, the air conditioning systems and the ventilation system.”
“This investment was made so that the Identità agency has a modern, safe and functional building that suits its workers, as well as offering a suitable and dignified environment to anyone who needs to use its services,” said the Minister for Gozo.
He added that the Ministry for Gozo is also taking care of financing the lease for this office building that is now hosting Identità.
Identità’s CEO, Edric Zahra, recall that just up until a few months ago, all of the agency’s services in Gozo were being provided through different offices across Rabat. He underscored that today, all services are available to the public in Gozo inside this single office; he said this was a testament to the agency’s commitment to offering essential services as efficiently as possible.
Identità’s chairperson, Marlene Mizzi, said that thanks to Identità’s strategy of placing citizens at the heart of its decisions, an increasingly professional, efficient, and effective service is being provided.
