Prime Minister attends Marriott’s 20-year anniversary commemoration

The 20th anniversary of the Malta Marriott Resort & Spa was commemorated during an event attended by Prime Minister Robert Abela.

During this event, Abela said the government remains committed to strengthening Malta’s tourism product, improving infrastructure, and encouraging quality investment in the tourism industry.

Abela described large investments like the hotel as a sign of investor confidence in Malta’s economy and tourism sector. More than 4 million tourists visited Malta last year, whose spending reached nearly €4 billion, representing about a 13% increase from the previous year.

The hotel is part of Marriott International’s global network, which helps promote Malta in international markets, particularly the United States. This is especially relevant with direct flights between New York and Malta expected to start this summer.

General Manager Alex Incorvaja described the 20-year anniversary as a significant milestone. He highlighted the global reach of the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty programme, which has over 270 million members.

The hotel opened in 2006 and was rebranded in 2020 following a €40 million investment. It has 301 rooms, can host around 850 guests, and employs about 225 people.

Abela said stability remains one of Malta’s strongest assets amid global geopolitical uncertainty. He linked tourism development with the long-term Malta Vision 2050 strategy.
