Rain, wind could disrupt Holy Week events, processions

The Meteorological Office is forecasting strong winds and rain in the coming days up to Saturday, weather conditions that could possibly disrupt actvities and processions associated wth Holy Week.

The forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this weel is for windy conditions with thundery showers, while wind and rain are also expected on Friday and will make way for isolated showers on Saturday.

Such conditions could affect the Seven Visits tradition on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday in the morning, the Puttinu Cares walk which is set to start at midnight on Good Friday and processions with Good Friday statues in the afternoon.

It will not be the first time that bad weather affects Good Friday events. In 2022, most processions were candelled because of the weather. The processions had been cancelled in 2020 and 2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last Friday, some Our Lady of Sorrows processions were cancelled because of strong winds and rain.
