Romanian Minister praises Malta’s implementation of EU funds in official visit

During an official visit to various infrastructural and cultural sites, Romania’s Minister for Investments and European Projects, Dragoș-Nicolae Pîslaru, praised how Malta has utilised its European Union funds for projects around the country.

Pîslaru was welcomed to Malta by Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, the Minister for European Funds and the Implementation of the Electoral Programme, and was taken around to observe several sites including the Grand Master’s Palace and the shore-to-ship project.

Pîslaru stated that this visit gave him the opportunity to see first-hand how European funds are being implemented in Malta. He noted that Malta’s experience offers positive practices that could benefit other countries, including Romania, particularly in the field of integrating public policy with European investment.

“Malta clearly demonstrates how a country can maximise the benefits of European funding through strategic planning and effective implementation,” the Romanian official said, “The projects we have seen, both infrastructural and those linked to cultural heritage, highlight the added value of the European Union’s cohesion policy.”

Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi said that this meeting allowed Malta to demonstrate how it effectively uses EU funds to implement the measures outlined in the government’s electoral programme to deliver tangible results for citizens. He mentioned that the Maltese government is using these strategic investments to leave a long-term positive impact on the country.

The two ministers discussed projects that have been fully implemented and some that are underway, specifically those with a focus on promoting environmental sustainability and economic growth, Zrinzo Azzopardi said. For instance, the shore-to-ship project was highlighted as a “clear example of how we are reducing emissions in the port and improving air quality through European Union funding.”

During this visit, both ministers emphasised the importance of cooperation between Member States to ensure that European Funds continue to contribute to sustainable development, digitalisation, and an improved quality of life for citizens.
