Two men greviously injured in multi-vehicle Coast Road accident

Two men were hospitalised with grievous injuries following a series of traffic accidents on the Coast Road, limits of Naxxar, this morning.

Police said they were called to the scene at approximately 7.15 am after a 41-year-old man from Għaxaq lost control of his Subaru Impreza, which crashed into a wall and came to a stop in the middle of the carriageway.

The stationary vehicle caused a traffic obstruction, forcing other motorists to stop. In an attempt to avoid the halted traffic, a 36-year-old man riding a Suzuki motorcycle lost control and collided with crash barriers, sustaining injuries.

Simultaneously, a chain-reaction collision involving five vehicles occurred at the same location. The vehicles involved included an Isuzu van, a Mazda 2, a Toyota Passo, a Toyota Vitz, and a Porsche. The driver of the Toyota Vitz, a 29-year-old resident of St Paul’s Bay, also sustained injuries.

A medical team provided assistance on-site, and both the motorcyclist and the driver of the Vitz were transported by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital, where they were later certified as having suffered grievous injuries.

The driver of the Subaru was unharmed.

Police investigations into the incidents are ongoing.
