Two more people removed from Malta after failing to cooperate with authorities

The Immigration Police carried out another forced return operation involving two men, the police said Saturday. They were taken back to their country of origin in North Africa.

One of the men had entered Malta with a group of irregular migrants during the past year. He did not qualify for protection and was kept in a detention centre until he was repatriated, the police said.

The other man had been detained by soldiers of the Armed Forces of Malta after he was found hidden on a vessel that was within Maltese maritime territory. Upon being brought to Malta, he was also detained by the Principal Immigration Officer in a detention centre until his forced repatriation was carried out.

The operation was assisted by a doctor from the Detention Agency, as well as an official from the Monitoring Board for Persons in Detention.

In January, this was the fourth operation involving people who were forcibly deported after they were found not to have the right to reside in Maltese and European territory.
