Updated: Massive industrial fire in Dingli extinguished

A massive industrial fire in Dingli has been put out, the Civil Protection Department said. No injuries have been reported.

When the fire broke out in a quarry containing rubbish including tyres early in the afternoon, the public was urged to avoid going to Dingli.

“The public is kindly requested to avoid the area due to safety concerns and ongoing emergency response operations,” CPD said.

Residents in nearby localities, including Dingli and Rabat, were advised to keep all doors and windows closed as a precaution due to smoke and fumes in the area.

In another post later, the CPD said the fire had been put out with the use of 190,000 litres of water and 5,000 litres of foam.

Thirty-four fire fighters were employed in the operation along with six senior fire officers.
