Updated: Missing 57-year-old man found dead in a field

A man who was reported missing on Sunday morning has now been found dead in a field in the area where he was last seen, Police said in a statement.

The Police Force issued an appeal for information about the whereabouts of 57-year-old Eusebio Abela on Sunday morning. 

He had last been seen in the Bulebel area wearing shorts and a grey top with red stripes.

Police released a still from CCTV footage showing Abela as it appealed for information.

In a statement later on Sunday however, police said that Abela had been found dead in a field in Bulebel at around 5:30pm.

The police said that the involvement of third parties is being excluded.

Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia is leading an inquiry while police investigations continue.
