Updated: Police arrest two men in separate drug operations in Paola and Pieta

Two men are facing legal action following separate police operations targeting drug-related crimes in Paola and Pieta yesterday morning.

A 28-year-old resident of Paola was taken into police custody yesterday morning after being found in possession of a significant quantity of suspected cannabis, the police said Thursday.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 am at Toni Bezzina Garden. While conducting a routine foot patrol in the area, police officers stopped the man for questioning. A search of his person led to the discovery of a paper bag containing two large, sealed packages filled with what is suspected to be cannabis buds.

Following the initial find, the investigation moved to the man’s residence located on Kordin Street, Paola. During a thorough search of the property, officers uncovered additional quantities of the suspected drug.

In total, approximately half a kilogram of cannabis was seized during the operation. Police also confiscated various items typically associated with drug paraphernalia and distribution.

The suspect remains in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court within the next few days to face charges related to aggravated drug possession.

In a second, unrelated incident around 10:00 am, police surveillance near St. Luke’s Hospital in Pieta led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man from Valletta.

Officers became suspicious of the man while he was in his vehicle and proceeded to conduct a search.

They found various sachets containing substances suspected to be cocaine, heroin, and cannabis, along with an undisclosed amount of cash.

This individual is set to be arraigned today at 10:00 am before Magistrate Dr. Tanya Sammut.
