Discussion on new economic measures are headed in the right direction \u2013 Silvio Schembri<\/p>\n

Economy Minister Silvio Schembri said that he is pleased to see that all stakeholders in the ministry are taking a holistic approach towards the discussions on the new economic measures, and that they are headed in the right direction.<\/p>\n

During last week’s edition of Indepth, Malta<\/a> Chamber of SMEs CEO Abigail Mamo revealed that the chamber had put forward a number of proposals for the government to implement in the coming economic packages. These proposals are centred on making Malta’s market ‘future proof’ by making it less dependent on imported goods and services. This includes putting emphasis on a digital economy, investing in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and electronics, as well as urging businesses to invest in online methods of shopping and payments. <\/p>\n

This newsroom asked Schembri for his opinion on these proposals and if they are being considered by the government.<\/p>\n

Schembri said that he will be announcing the new economic measures in the coming days and did not disclose which measures will be implemented. “What I can say is that I am happy with the direction that we are taking with these discussions and almost everyone who is involved is on the same wavelength, even when it comes to the proposals the government already had in mind before these meetings,” he said.<\/p>\n

He went on to say that he is also pleased to see that stakeholders did not only focus on their area of expertise during these discussions, but extended their concerns and proposals to Malta’s economy as a whole. “This holistic approach gives us courage that we are moving in the right direction and we will be doing our best to ensure that all of these goals are reached,” he concluded. <\/p>\n
