Malta International Airport is gearing up for a vibrant Valentine’s and Carnival weekend between the 13th and 17th of February, with around 121,000 passengers expected to travel through the airport over the five-day period, as romance and revelry takes over cities across Europe, it said. <\/p>\n
“Paris remains a timeless favourite for couples seeking a romantic escape, with connections to Orly operating four times weekly, daily flights to Charles de Gaulle and twice-weekly services to Beauvais. Venice Treviso, served daily, offers travellers the opportunity to experience first-hand the magic of the world-renowned Venetian Carnival, famous for its elaborate masks and historic pageantry. Another popular carnival destination connected to Malta via three weekly flights is Cologne, where Germany’s largest street festival promises visitors colourful parades and lively street festivities.”<\/p>\n
“To enhance the guest experience throughout the weekend, Malta International Airport will be rolling out a number of seasonal activations across the terminal and at SkyParks Business Centre. Both travelling and visiting guests can look forward to free treats and activities, as well as a dedicated kids’ club for younger revellers.” <\/p>\n
The festive weekend follows a strong start to the year for Malta International Airport, with a total of 594,889 passenger movements registered in January, it said. “As available seat capacity increased by 13.7% year on year to reach 781,475 seats, seat load factor also improved by 2.3 percentage points, standing at 76.1%.”<\/p>\n
“Passenger traffic peaked at the beginning of the month as the holiday season drew to a close, with the 3rd of January marking the airport’s busiest day of the year so far. On that day alone, the airport handled 35,166 passenger movements across 207 scheduled and charter flights. Italy was the airport’s largest market, with 109,296 passengers travelling to and from Italian airports and a market share of 18.4%. Poland secured second place on the market leaderboard with a 15.3% share, overtaking the United Kingdom (15.7% share), Germany (6.5% share) and Spain (5.7% share).”<\/p>\n
