Tourist arrivals jump by 21% in January, NSO says<\/p>\n
Total inbound tourists for January 2026 were estimated at 235,772, an increase of 21.4 per cent when compared to the corresponding month in 2025, the NSO said Friday.<\/p>\n
During the month under review, a total of 219,117 inbound tourists visited Malta for holiday purposes, and 12,294 tourists came for business purposes. The largest share of inbound tourists consisted of persons aged between 25 and 44 (37.0 per cent), followed by the 45-64 age bracket (35.4 per cent). Polish, British, and Italian residents made up 49.4 per cent of total inbound tourists.<\/p>\n
Total nights spent went up by 22.3 per cent when compared to January 2025, reaching 1.4 million nights. The largest share of guest nights (82.6 per cent) was spent in rented accommodation establishments. The average length of stay of total inbound tourists stood at 5.9 nights.<\/p>\n
Total tourist expenditure stood at €178.9 million, an increase of 25.5 per cent over the corresponding month in 2025. The average expenditure per night was estimated at €129.6.<\/p>\n
The number of tourists visiting Gozo and Comino, including both same-day and overnight visitors, totalled 93,502, or 39.7 per cent of total tourists.<\/p>\n
