Man arraigned after cocaine haul found at St Julian\u2019s hotel<\/p>\n
A 36-year-old man from Żejtun has been arraigned in court on Friday after police found around 41 grams of cocaine in his possession while he was staying at a hotel in St Julian’s.<\/p>\n
Ian Zammit was charged with aggravated possession of cocaine in circumstances indicating that the drug was not intended for his personal use.<\/p>\n
The alleged offence was also committed within 100 metres of a place frequented by young people.<\/p>\n
Zammit was further charged with breaching three separate bail conditions imposed in May 2024, December 2024, and May 2025.<\/p>\n
Inspector Kelsey Bugeja told the court that the discovery of the drugs stemmed from investigations into another offence, with another individual also involved.<\/p>\n
While residing at the hotel, a search of Zammit’s person revealed a white substance suspected to be cocaine. A subsequent search of his hotel room uncovered additional quantities of the substance, both in powder form and in small blocks.<\/p>\n
The total amount of drugs found was estimated at approximately 41 grams.<\/p>\n
Zammit pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.<\/p>\n
The validity of the arrest was not contested and no request for bail was made at this stage.<\/p>\n
Zammit had previously been arraigned in June 2025 in connection with a domestic violence case involving his former partner.<\/p>\n
The prosecution was led by Inspector Kelsey Bugeja together with AG lawyer Nadia Ciappara.<\/p>\n
Lawyers Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri appeared for the accused.<\/p>\n
Magistrate Tanya Sammut presided over the arraignment.<\/p>\n
