Threat against Adrian Delia withdrawn by ambassador nominee\u2019s partner, Speaker closes case<\/p>\n
A case concerning a breach of parliamentary privilege against PN MP Adrian Delia has been closed after the partner of ambassadorial nominee Roseanne Camilleri withdrew a threatening message unreservedly, Speaker Anġlu Farrugia said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
In a ruling delivered in Parliament, Farrugia confirmed that while he had previously found a prima facie breach of privilege, the circumstances no longer justified further action following the complete withdrawal of the message.<\/p>\n
The decision follows an earlier ruling given during a parliamentary sitting on Tuesday, in which the Speaker had determined that the message sent to Delia contained serious intimidation and constituted a prima facie breach under the Privileges and Power Ordinance.<\/p>\n
The individual involved had been formally notified of the ruling by the Clerk of the House.<\/p>\n
In that initial ruling, Farrugia had stated that if the sender were to retract the message in full and without reservation, he would be in a position to reconsider his decision.<\/p>\n
Parliament was subsequently informed that on the same day, the individual responded in writing, confirming the unconditional withdrawal of the entire contents of the message sent to Delia.<\/p>\n
The Speaker said he had fulfilled his duty by affording Delia full protection under the law and parliamentary procedure, but acknowledged that the message had now been entirely withdrawn.<\/p>\n
With the unconditional retraction now made, the Speaker declared the matter concluded.<\/p>\n
