PL welcomes National Integrated Transport Plan, which will take Malta to 'the next level'<\/p>\n
The Labour Party on Friday welcomed with satisfaction the “Malta in Motion” plan, a holistic strategy presented by the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works, Chris Bonett “which will give people more efficient travel options while strengthening connectivity between key communities, employment hubs, and essential services”.<\/p>\n
This plan builds on, and further improves, what was announced earlier, the PL said in a statement. It is a plan that has taken the time it needed to be properly defined, and one that is deliverable.<\/p>\n
“Malta in Motion”, developed by Transport Malta together with the international firm ARUP, brings together six core elements to be implemented in an integrated way: public transport (tallinja), ferry services, cars and roads, walking and cycling, and a Rapid Transit or Light Rail system.<\/p>\n
This means that each mode of transport will connect with the other as part of one seamless chain, leading to a mass-transport approach that makes sense for today’s realities and tomorrow’s needs, the PL said.<\/p>\n
The strategic thinking behind Malta in Motion is built on five pillars that prioritise people, spaces, and economic opportunities: Choice in how a person travels; A better quality of life through an efficient transport system; Transport that respects everyone’s needs; An integrated, connected system with synchronised services; A robust plan that ensures solutions not only for today, but also for the future.<\/p>\n
Over the coming years, this plan will help Malta reach a number of goals: a more organised country, transport that can meet future needs, a more inclusive and safer system, and above all, a more efficient one, the PL said.<\/p>\n
