alternative government, as he addressed a PN rally in Attard alongside party candidates.

Borg used the event to emphasise key proposals already put forward by the party, including a 30% reduction in electricity prices and free cancer medication, as he urged voters to place their trust in what he described as a “prepared and credible” alternative government.

Speaking at an activity for the 11th district, Borg said that the PN’s proposals are already on the table and form part of a broader, long-term plan.

He argued that, unlike what he described as short-term measures by the government, the PN is focused on sustainable solutions.

“We are clear on our priorities, from the first budget we will be working on decreasing our bills,” he said.

Borg placed particular emphasis on previously announced pledges, including the commitment to make cancer medicines free.

“We will be guaranteeing that the medicine for cancer is free for anyone needing the treatment, even if we were told it is not possible,” he said.

He also reiterated the plan to reduce electricity tariffs by 30% “for families, for farmers, for villages and for those living alone,” presenting the measures as part of a broader effort to ease financial pressures.

Borg said the party is not relying on “temporary gimmicks” but is instead focused on “building a future for the next generation.”

He added that further proposals will continue to be rolled out in the coming weeks, as the party builds its electoral platform.

The event brought together several candidates from the district, who addressed supporters on a range of issues affecting daily life, including traffic congestion, housing challenges and quality of life concerns.

PN candidate Ivan Bartolo spoke of Borg’s leadership qualities, pointing to “humility, honesty and courage” as traits that “don’t cost money” but are essential in politics.

“People are exhausted from traffic and from waiting lists for social housing,” he said, arguing that the country needs a fresh breath and a change in direction.

PN candidate Dione Borg said that this is not an election like others, it is about institutions, justice and good governance.

He urged supporters to remain committed and not to be influenced by political messaging from opponents, adding that the strength of the party lies in its grassroots.

Rebekah Borg drew on her personal experience as a mother living in Attard, and spoke about walking through the town with her child and appreciating its cultural and historical heritage, which she said must be protected.

At the same time, she pointed to noise pollution as a growing issue.

“I don’t want to stop the parties, but there are technical solutions we can agree on,” she said, calling for a balanced approach that respects both residents and social activity.

Edmond Cuschieri, one of the newer faces within the party, thanked supporters for the warm welcome he has received since joining.

Describing the election as “crucial”, he urged people to stay informed and to take an active role in shaping the country’s future.

Former PN leader Bernard Grech also addressed the rally, recalling past electoral gains despite unfavourable predictions and expressing confidence in the party’s direction.

He spoke of the importance of voter participation, arguing that real change depends on turnout.

“If you want less hardship and a better quality of life but you do not vote, then it is useless to complain,” he said, linking everyday concerns, including environmental issues, to the need for political engagement.

PN candidate Josef Grech focused on the realities faced by families, particularly younger households trying to balance work, raising children and affording housing.

He said these pressures are central to the PN’s message of renewal.

“People want to live without constant stress, not feeling that you must suffer just to work,” he said, adding that improving quality of life should be at the heart of policymaking.

Local issues specific to Attard were also raised during the event, including concerns about a lack of green spaces.

Borg acknowledged these concerns, noting that residents have repeatedly highlighted the need for more open areas, and said the party is committed to addressing such community-level challenges alongside national reforms.

Closing the event, Borg praised the candidates’ mix of experience and youthful energy, describing them as “determined to be a worthy alternative government.”

He called on voters to take responsibility in the next general election and “use their vote to give a new direction to Malta and Gozo,” describing the choice as one that will shape the country’s future trajectory.

RSS Feed Source: Independent Malta Borg pitches PN as ‘prepared and credible’ alternative government

Borg pitches PN as ‘prepared and credible’ alternative government PN leader Alex Borg urged voters to place their trust in the PN as a “prepared and credible”
