The Commission projects that the Maltese economy will grow by 3.7% this year and will continue to grow by 3.6% next year; these are the highest-growing rates among all national economies within the European Union.

PM Abela stated that despite these positive results and indications, these trends can only prevail if the Labour Party is re-elected.

He said that Malta was not marked as the EU’s “best in class” by coincidence, pointing towards the economic policies undertaken by his government to shield the country from the economic shockwaves that are affecting other European countries as a result of the turbulent geopolitical situation in the Middle East.

Abela said that while the war is not being felt in Malta, the German economy has stagnated as it is struggling to create jobs, unemployment has skyrocketed by 10%, “and worse than this, they have no positive signs for their future.” In contrast, Malta also enjoys the lowest unemployment rate in the continent.

“We will remain number 1 for the next five years – but this is only possible if we have competent and credible leaders,” Abela said.

According to the Prime Minister, the difference between staying atop EU economic rankings and returning to the days when austerity measures were in force under the last PN government in the late 2000s and early 2010s, depends on the incoming vote.

Abela warned that voting for the Nationalist Party would risk national economic stability, reiterating his party’s rhetoric that the PN is not credible to lead or handle national finances.

He called for all party supporters to keep convincing others to vote for his Labour Party, “till the last second.” He also advocated for everyone to pick up their voting documents to help the PL get re-elected, so it can implement its manifesto.

The Prime Minister added that “this is the most difficult election we’ve ever had in front of us,” that every election starts out even between the parties, and that the Labour Party has “three Gozitan pillars” in its team through ministers Clint Camilleri, Jo Etienne Abela, and Anton Refalo.

Appealing to the Gozitan crowd, he said that the 100 proposals dedicated to Gozo in the PL manifesto make it the largest chapter in the party’s proposed mandate.

Abela dismissed claims that “[Gozo] was better before” during his speech, citing that under PN rule, over 13 years ago, Gozo had half as many people in the workforce while recording the highest poverty rate among all regions in the Maltese islands. He said that under another PL mandate, the Gozitan economy, as well as its connections to the island of Malta, will improve significantly.

The other speakers in this mass rally were PL representatives Amanda Spiteri Grech, Carmelo Abela, and Alison Zerafa Civelli.

RSS Feed Source: Independent Malta Malta’s economic stability hangs in the balance in general election vote, Prime Minister says

Malta’s economic stability hangs in the balance in general election vote, Prime Minister says Prime Minister Robert Abela told Labour Party supporters in Xewkija that Malta’s economic stability and its projected EU-leading economic growth for…

[2139
1850
post-84424","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-malta-news","tag-abatement
