She said that every decision and every measure should aim to improve people’s lives and provide greater support to those facing challenges or feeling alone.

She stated that a strong economy has enabled investment in more initiatives supporting families, education, the elderly, and mental health. She emphasised that progress should not be measured solely by economic figures, but also by people’s quality of life.

Abela spoke about the importance of quality time with family, more open spaces, and promoting healthier lifestyles, while insisting that wellbeing is not a luxury, but a necessity. She said that a strong society is built when people feel respected, supported, and valued.

She also emphasised mental health and the need to normalise conversations about anxiety and therapy from a young age.

In this context, she mentioned collaboration with Richmond Foundation to introduce mental health programs into secondary schools across Malta and Gozo, with the aim of helping children recognise emotional challenges and seek help when needed.

Abela also said that measures such as increased maternity leave, paternity leave, and parental leave are intended to give parents more quality time with their families during the most important moments of their lives.

Also participating in the discussion was Daniel Micallef, from the PL’s electoral manifesto, who said that the concept of “with you every step of the way” was at the heart of the electoral manifesto, with emphasis on more time for families, wellbeing, and support throughout the different stages of life. He also stressed the importance of normalising therapy and mental health.

Presenter Melanie Kelly shared her personal experience regarding the balance between work and family life, while appealing for greater priority to continue being given to personal wellbeing. She also spoke openly about the importance of therapy and removing the stigma associated with it.

During the discussion, several speakers addressed different aspects of wellbeing. Michelle Muscat from ACE emphasized work-life balance and the importance of better conditions for workers.

Psychotherapist Martin Cassar spoke about the value of community and social support for mental health, while Alex Caruana mentioned progress in civil rights and their impact on the quality of life of the LGBTIQ+ community.

Athlete Tenishia Thornton emphasised the importance of sport for mental and physical health, while Bernice Sant spoke about the connection between nutrition, physical activity, and mental wellbeing.

RSS Feed Source: Independent Malta Lydia Abela emphasises the importance of wellbeing and quality of life

Lydia Abela emphasises the importance of wellbeing and quality of life Wellbeing, quality of life, and the importance of keeping people at the centre of politics were among the key themes highlighted during a Labour…

[2139
1850
post-84456","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-malta-news","tag-abatement
