PN increased tally of votes in all districts, Borg says<\/p>\n
The Nationalist Party registered gains across all electoral districts in Malta and Gozo, leader Alex Borg said, describing this as evidence that support for the party is growing.<\/p>\n
The result showed growing support for the Nationalist Party and a significantly reduced electoral gap, with Borg saying that the PL’s margin had been reduced to 18,000 votes (from 39,000 in 2022).<\/p>\n
Addressing journalists at the Naxxar counting hall following confirmation of the result, Borg thanked members of the media for their role throughout the electoral campaign.<\/p>\n
“I wish to thank you, the media, for this electoral campaign,” Borg said. “You gave us an enormous contribution because, at the end of the day, you kept us in check with the proposals that we were announcing.”<\/p>\n
Borg said that he immediately contacted the Prime Minister after the result became clear to formally concede the election.<\/p>\n
“As soon as I saw that there was confirmation of the result, at once I called the Prime Minister to concede,” he said. “At the end of the day, now the election passes and we must continue with life.”<\/p>\n
Borg called for mutual respect in the aftermath of the election and stressed the importance of putting national interests first.<\/p>\n
Borg pledged that the Nationalist Party would continue to serve as an effective Opposition, holding the government accountable for the promises made during the campaign.<\/p>\n
Despite the defeat, Borg argued that the election result demonstrated a significant shift in voter sentiment. He pointed to what he described as a sharp reduction in Labour’s electoral advantage compared to previous elections.<\/p>\n
“What is certain is that today we have a clear confirmation why the election was called before its time,” Borg said. “We saw the result drastically decrease from a 40,000-voter gap, and this clearly shows us why he did not wait for us to continue going with our work for another year.”<\/p>\n
Borg concluded on an optimistic note, saying the result demonstrated that the party’s message was resonating with voters and that it would continue building momentum in the years ahead.<\/p>\n
“It was a clear signal that hope is not lost, hope has strengthened, and in the years that we have ahead of us, we will see to continue strengthening this hope,” he said.<\/p>\n
