Prime Minister Robert Abela has described his party’s latest electoral victory as a historic moment for Malta, saying voters had chosen stability, economic growth, and an ambitious long-term vision for the country’s future.<\/p>\n
In an address to the nation, Abela said the Maltese and Gozitan people had been presented with a choice about the kind of future they wanted for the country. He said voters had decided “with clear determination” to once again place their trust in him and the government team he leads.<\/p>\n
The result marks the first time in Malta’s history that a political party has secured a fourth consecutive electoral mandate.<\/p>\n
“This choice is historic in a very important moment,” Abela said, arguing that despite growing international and regional challenges, Maltese citizens had expressed a stronger desire for a better quality of life in a better Malta.<\/p>\n
Abela said the government’s electoral manifesto had now become its programme for government and would guide its work over the coming years. He described the programme as comprehensive and designed to support citizens through every stage of life.<\/p>\n
“We want to make life easier, more beautiful and better,” he said.<\/p>\n
Abela highlighted what he described as unprecedented economic progress achieved by Malta in recent years, arguing that the country’s economic strength had enabled the government to shield families from external pressures and uncertainty.<\/p>\n
He pledged that the administration would remain focused on providing certainty, stability and peace of mind while continuing to protect families, which he described as “the heart of the country”.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead, Abela stressed the importance of maintaining economic growth to fund the government’s social commitments and implement the proposals endorsed by voters.<\/p>\n
“We need to keep the economic machine of our country running,” he said, adding that continued investment and reform would allow Malta’s economy to evolve further and remain among Europe’s strongest performers.<\/p>\n
Abela also reiterated his government’s commitment to expanding social investment, promising policies aimed at improving wellbeing and giving citizens more time for themselves and their families.<\/p>\n
Central to the government’s plans, Abela said, is the implementation of the “Malta Vision 2050” strategy, a long-term national development framework intended to guide the country through the coming decades.<\/p>\n
The plan includes several major initiatives, including the regeneration of the Grand Harbour area, the “Malta in Motion” transport programme, a new strategy for the energy sector, and increased public-sector investment.<\/p>\n
Describing the agenda as ambitious, Abela expressed confidence that his government would be able to deliver on its commitments and write what he called “the next chapter of the Malta that we love so much”.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister concluded by calling for unity and collective ambition, saying that Malta had repeatedly demonstrated its ability to achieve major goals when working together and must now “climb to the next level” in its national development.<\/p>\n
