A crowd of Labour Party supporters was present in Valletta on Monday morning for Prime Minister Robert Abela’s official swearing in, despite intense heat.<\/p>\n
During this official ceremony, St. George’s Square was packed with celebratory PL supporters. The Maltese capital was filled with people dressed in red, as well as Labour Party flags, t-shirts, and red and white flares.<\/p>\n
Spirits were high as party supporters flocked to Valletta to continue celebrating the Labour Party’s re-election for a record-setting fourth consecutive term.<\/p>\n
The Malta Independent<\/i> approached several PL supporters present in the capital city on Monday to ask them how they are feeling about another legislature secured under Prime Minister Robert Abela and his PL government’s leadership.<\/p>\n
All supporters were elated with this past weekend’s election result, with one man remarking that he “couldn’t be happier than this.” <\/p>\n
Another person remarked how, in their view, PL governments have shaped Malta into “a modern and successful country, among the best in Europe.” This man said he is convinced that over the next five years, i.e., this legislature, Abela’s renewed government will keep up this work for the better of the country.<\/p>\n
Another man said that he was “very happy” with the PL winning the 2026 general election, noting that “four consecutive times is not easy, especially by so many votes.”<\/p>\n
None of the party supporters, who were asked about it, expressed concern about the fact that the voter gap between the Labour Party and the Nationalist Party this general election has gone down by around half the difference in 2022 – from 39,474 votes to 21,721 votes.<\/p>\n
One woman said that she is “very happy” with the election outcome and that now the country must wait and see what the Labour government will give the people from its list of electoral pledges. On this, she added that “I believe that [the PL government] will work to fulfil everything it promised.”<\/p>\n
This sentiment was felt by other persons this newspaper spoke to. One person said he has full faith in this elected PL government, because “the Labour Party fulfils what it promises” while another man stated that the electorate “chose very well” while congratulating the Prime Minister and his team.<\/p>\n
