Full list: Here is who is contesting PL\u2019s casual elections<\/p>\n
The Electoral Commission has published the full list of candidates contesting the Labour Party’s casual elections.<\/p>\n
The PL casual elections will be taking place on Friday, 12 June at the Naxxar Counting Complex. Counting will commence at 9am.<\/p>\n
47 total nominations have been submitted for the eight seats up for grabs. The candidates to tally the largest number of transferred votes following this casual election process will be made Members of Parliament (MPs) for this upcoming fifteenth legislature.<\/p>\n
These nominations were submitted from Saturday, 6 June till Wednesday, 10 June.<\/p>\n
These casual elections are the final chance for many of these Labour Party candidates to form part of the Parliament of Malta’s composition for the coming legislature. <\/p>\n
The casual election process will also play a part in which women can get themselves elected via the gender corrective mechanism. <\/p>\n
As it stands, from the women contesting Friday’s PL casual elections, Ramona Attard, Cressida Galea, Rebecca Buttigieg, Francesca Zarb, and Yana Borg Debono Grech will be elected through the gender quota if they are not elected on Friday. Fleur Abela will also make it to Parliament via the quota.<\/p>\n
Naomi Cachia, Deborah Schembri, and Romilda Zarb are the female PL candidates next in line to be elected through the gender corrective mechanism. If they remain unelected following casual elections, they must hope that the candidates above them in the gender quota rankings – which is based on vote shares achieved in comparison to a district quota, within a single district – are elected to bump them up the rankings accordingly.<\/p>\n
