Former Labour MP Katya De Giovanni said she was convinced she had a chance of being re-elected to Parliament had the Labour Party chosen to have a casual election on Districts 4 and 10.<\/p>\n
In a statement posted on Facebook after the casual elections held today<\/strong><\/a>, De Giovanni said that it is clear that she did not have chance of being elected.<\/p>\n The casual elections held today elected eight Labour MPs, but none of the exercises were held in the districts De Giovanni contested, the fourth and tenth. The Labour Party executive did not pick these districts for casual elections.<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n De Giovanni will also not be one of the women candidates who would be elected via the gender corrective mechanism.<\/p>\n “Now that the electoral process has concluded, it appears that I will not be serving in this legislature,” she said. “I would like to thank my family and my husband and all those who believed in me.”<\/p>\n She also congratulated those elected to Parliament and urged them to remain committed to representing the public honestly and responsibly.<\/p>\n “I also wish all those who were elected to be worthy representatives of the people and who always seek the truth,” she said.<\/p>\n De Giovanni stated that she believed she had a chance to secure a parliamentary seat had casual elections been held in the fourth and tenth districts, where she contested.<\/p>\n Despite not being elected, De Giovanni said she would continue working to help others and thanked supporters for their backing throughout the campaign.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n
