13 people successfully complete Sedqa drug rehabilitation programme<\/p>\n
13 people have successfully completed a drug rehabilitation programme run by Aġenzija Sedqa, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives, a statement said.<\/p>\n
The programme, delivered over a number of months, supports people working to overcome drug addiction and rebuild their lives away from dependency.<\/p>\n
The completion ceremony was held in the presence of President Myriam Spiteri Debono and Social Policy and Family Minister Michael Falzon.<\/p>\n
The event also recognised organisations and individuals whose work contributes towards a healthier society and helps prevent different forms of addictions.<\/p>\n
Addressing the ceremony, President Spiteri Debono praised the graduates for their resilience, courage and determination, describing the evening as the first step towards a new beginning.<\/p>\n
She also acknowledged Sedqa’s work in supporting people affected by addiction, as well as the agency’s ongoing efforts in prevention.<\/p>\n
The President said society must do more to reduce prejudice towards people struggling with addiction, stressing that “whoever is a victim needs help and not condemnation.”<\/p>\n
During the ceremony, commemorative gifts prepared by residents of the Santa Marija Community were presented.<\/p>\n
Souvenirs symbolising responsibility, empathy and respect were also given, reflecting the message that people affected by addiction should not be met with contempt, distance or judgement.<\/p>\n
The evening also included testimonies from people who have managed to regain control of their lives and are now living healthily, free from addiction and dependency.<\/p>\n
Minister Falzon said addiction remains a social reality affecting both individuals and families, adding that government investment in rehabilitation programmes and professional support will continue.<\/p>\n
“It is for this purpose that we continuously invest funding both in programmes like these and also in professionals,” Falzon said.<\/p>\n
He appealed to people facing addiction to seek help, warning that failing to act can lead to more serious consequences as addiction deepens.<\/p>\n
“Help is there and therefore I appeal to those who are in a problem to take this first step. Lack of action can mean much worse consequences the deeper the addiction goes,” he said.<\/p>\n
Foundation for Social Welfare Services chief executive Alfred Grixti said Sedqa assisted 2,037 people throughout 2025. By mid-June this year, a further 1,832 people had already received support from Sedqa professionals.<\/p>\n
Grixti also highlighted Sedqa’s prevention work, saying that 4,141 prevention programmes were held in 2025 across various sectors, reaching more than 27,000 people.<\/p>\n
So far this year, 1,313 prevention sessions have already been delivered, providing training and awareness to more than 9,000 people.<\/p>\n
