'I am begging for justice': 10 years on, Eleanor Walker's family still awaits murder trial<\/p>\n
Ten years after Eleanor Walker was killed, her family is still waiting for a trial date for the man charged with her murder, with her mother renewing her plea for justice, the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation said in a statement.<\/p>\n
The foundation said that Eleanor Walker was killed on 2 July 2016 and that, a decade later, criminal proceedings remain unresolved, with no trial date yet having been set.<\/p>\n
Reflecting on the anniversary of her daughter’s murder, Josephine Walker said that it has been 10 years since Eleanor was murdered and nothing has happened for her justice.<\/p>\n
“I am begging for justice,” she said.<\/p>\n
The statement said that days after Walker was killed in a garage in Swieqi, her estranged husband was charged with her murder.<\/p>\n
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody, but was granted bail just over a year later.<\/p>\n
Since then, he has faced further criminal charges for offences allegedly committed while on bail, including violent theft, the foundation said.<\/p>\n
He was released on bail again and remains at liberty pending trial for Walker’s murder.<\/p>\n
The foundation referred to its October 2025 report, Justice at Risk<\/i>, saying prolonged criminal proceedings have serious consequences for the criminal justice system.<\/p>\n
Delays increase the risk of evidence deteriorating, witnesses’ memories fading, accused persons absconding, dying or being declared unfit to stand trial, while evidence may also become inadmissible, the statement said.<\/p>\n
Describing the case as “a stark reminder of the human cost of delayed justice,” the foundation said ten years without a trial was “intolerable.”<\/p>\n
“Eleanor, her daughter, and the family and friends she left behind deserve justice now,” the statement said.<\/p>\n
