\u20ac1.4 million invested in the second phase of the Wied Inċita project in Ħ\u2019Attard<\/p>\n
A further 7,000 square metres of land at Wied Inċita in Ħ’Attard are being regenerated through a €1.4 million investment as part of plans for a public park covering more than 90,000 square metres.<\/p>\n
The second phase of the project is being carried out by Ambjent Malta and will transform a neglected area into an accessible recreational space for families.<\/p>\n
The works follow the completion of the first phase, which created a 20,000-square-metre open recreational area.<\/p>\n
Environment Minister Miriam Dalli visited the ongoing works and said the project would continue to expand Wied Inċita while protecting its rural and ecological character.<\/p>\n
The second phase includes the restoration and rebuilding of traditional rubble walls, landscaping works, the pruning of existing vegetation and the installation of new irrigation systems.<\/p>\n
Walking routes will also be improved, while outdoor furniture, recreational facilities and additional safety and accessibility measures will be introduced.<\/p>\n
Hundreds of indigenous trees and shrubs suited to Malta’s climate will be planted across the site.<\/p>\n
These will include oak, pine, carob, myrtle and chaste trees, together with Mediterranean shrubs and aromatic plants.<\/p>\n
The project will also seek to strengthen biodiversity by creating habitats that provide food, shelter and breeding areas for insects, pollinators, birds and reptiles.<\/p>\n
Dalli said the investment was intended to create more open spaces where families could spend time together and children could experience the natural environment close to their communities.<\/p>\n
The works form part of a wider masterplan to transform more than 90,000 square metres at Wied Inċita into a public park providing recreational, educational and ecological facilities.<\/p>\n
