Off-duty police inspector arrests man after alleged theft in Żurrieq
A 50-year-old Somali man residing in Paola was arrested by an off-duty police inspector shortly after a number of people were allegedly robbed in Żurrieq.
Yesterday evening at around 8pm, the officer was approached by several people who informed him that they had discovered some missing items, including mobile phones, jackets and a basket, while they were at the Żurrieq church.
The same people gave a description of the man and told the inspector that shortly beforehand they had noticed him behaving suspiciously inside the church.
The inspector immediately began searching for the suspect and spotted him walking along Blue Grotto Avenue, where he was arrested. The items that were allegedly stolen shortly before were found in his possession.
The officer called for assistance, and the man was taken to the police station, where he remained in custody for further investigations.
