Abela visits KSU Careers Expo, says that Vision Malta 2050 aims to align skills with labour market

Prime Minister Robert Abela visited the KSU Malta Careers Expo at the University of Malta, where he met organisers and participants and spoke about the government’s plans to further modernise education in line with the country’s future economic needs, a statement said.

During the visit, Abela explained how Vision Malta 2050 is driving a holistic plan to strengthen Malta’s education system, with a particular focus on STEAM subjects while reinforcing the link between educational institutions and the needs of the labour market.

Abela said that the Vision Malta 2050 strategy places a strong emphasis on quality employment, increased training opportunities, apprenticeships and skills aligned with the requirements of the economy.

He also met several students attending the expo, saying that the government will continue supporting students in building the careers they aspire for and in finding quality employment.

Abela said that government support for families and students who choose to continue their studies – both during compulsory education and beyond – is being strengthened year after year.

He said that from this year, all students are benefiting from a 15% increase in their stipends, and parents of young people who continue their education beyond the compulsory stage are receiving a €500 annual grant for up to three years, together with income tax reductions until their children reach the age of 23.

The statement said that students who continue their studies immediately after secondary school are also receiving a voucher for one year of free internet, while Gozitan students pursuing their studies in Malta are granted €280 per month.

The KSU Malta Careers Expo will remain open until Wednesday, 11 March, giving attendees the opportunity to meet and speak with representatives from various companies and entities across different sectors, the statement said.

The participation of these representatives is helping students gain greater awareness of the opportunities offered by Malta’s labour market, it said.
